Recent Work: Herringbone Loop Carpet for a Cellar Gym Stairway
30th December 2025
This Wetherby project was all about making the route down to a cellar gym feel properly finished, while still keeping the staircase practical for regular use.
The stairs lead directly into a gym space, so the carpet needed to do more than just look good. A herringbone loop carpet was chosen to bring texture, grip and a smarter finish to what could otherwise have been a very plain transition area.
The pattern works especially well on a narrow staircase. It draws the eye down the steps, adds detail without feeling too busy, and gives the whole entrance a more intentional look. Against the clean white woodwork and neutral walls, the black and light-toned herringbone design creates a strong contrast that suits the modern gym space below.
A loop carpet is also a sensible option for stairs because of its firm, textured feel underfoot. For a busy access point like this, especially one leading to a home gym, it gives the space a more durable and practical finish than a softer, deeper pile carpet might.
The end result is a staircase that feels sharp, functional and much more in keeping with the room it leads to.
